Your child will learn about many subjects in their regular school studies, and although they may learn a bit about sports in physical education class, you may want to go a step farther and encourage them to join a sports team.
Being involved in a sport has numerous benefits. Kids learn team work, how to compete in a healthy manner, and they gain from the health benefits involved with being active. On top of all that, they learn about dedication and obtaining a goal through practice.

Obviously there is little doubt about the decision to be in sports, the question is which one. Often a child will come to you asking to join a specific sports team. You may not agree with their choice, but in most cases you should go ahead and let them get involved.

If you have a child that shows no interest in sports or cannot decide which sport they would like to play, it can be more challenging to get them involved. If this is the problem then take your child to observe various sports to see which one sparks interest. Remember that it will not benefit your child to force them into a sport you have chosen for them; let them decide which one they would like to try. If their first choice doesn’t work out, encourage them to try another after they have given the first one a valiant attempt.
