Sports, Teams and Advantages

Sports are shared experiences. This is a truth that should not be denied. From the roar of the crowd to the huddle of players: athleticism is defined by teams and their attempts to sway fate (stealing victories for themselves).

The importance of this is far more than friendship, however. There are instead genuine advantages to teams that must be considered:

Conditioning

The value of athletics has forever been understood to be its effect on the body — and team sports are no different. These activities demand constant motion: helping to strengthen bones, define muscles and battle the all too common signs of obesity. Exercise becomes an easier thing with the support of others; and players can receive encouragement for their efforts, rather than trying to condition their forms alone.

Communication

The world is defined by words: communication must be exchanged; relationships must be formed. It is only through group participation that success can be earned. Team sports provide that — with individuals forced to master social interaction. Strategies must be volleyed across the field. Plays must be discussed. And personalities must be tamed to the intention of winning. This becomes a vital cornerstone of adulthood.

Competition

Too often is the notion of competition insulted. Team sports are supposed to offer unity, it’s argued. Players aren’t meant to try and best each other. It has been proven, however, that individuals are 13 percent more likely to excel at athletics when challenging themselves against others. A sense of camaraderie doesn’t undermine the need to win — and this increases overall ability.

Through these elements players can excel with their sports and their daily lives.
